This route focuses on Tongpanyu, Hujingyu, Wangan Island, Jiangjyunyu and Cimeiyu.
Tongpanyu and Hujingyu are about 20 minutes away from Magong by boat. Both islands are famous for their majestic tholeiite columns and cat hole rocks. The most well-known features of Tongpanyu are craters and sea cliff columns around the island. Hujingyu is known for its Xishan basalt columns, talus, stratum, and tied island. The basalt in Wangan Island is the oldest in Penghu. It is famous for its rich aragonite. The stretched beach on the south of Wangan is the spawning ground for green turtles. Jiangjyunyu is famous for its aragonite and sea stack. Cimeiyu is located at the southernmost of Penghu. The Waiting-for-Husband Rock dykes below the Cimei lighthouse and the swarthy black basalt sea cliff surrounding the island are breathtaking. Great Stone-Lion sea cliff, Little Taiwan wave-cut platform, Dragon Sea-eroded Platform and Twin-Hearts Stone Weir are all famous spots.
Tongpanyu, Wangan Tiantaishan, and Cimei are designated as geoparks because of their special landscapes. Hence, do not miss these geological landscapes when you plan a trip to this route.

Tongpany
The path beneath Tongpanyu sea cliff and the one run through the middle of the mountain top, can be divided into three routes:
- First, start from the port, visit the small topographical landscapes on the wave-cut platform along the western coastline, which including wave-cut platform, pot holes, dykes, pedestal rocks, etc.; then observe the magma pool and sea cliff with concentric columnar joints on the lotus-shaped throne; afterwards, head back to the port from the same way or along the path next to lotus-shaped throne.
- Or continue the journey from before, walk from the lotus-shaped throne to the "Maogongshi Avenue" on the south side of the island to observe Maogongshi landscape; then walk along the tableland, pass Tongpanyu Art Village and settlement to get back to the port.
- The longest journey is walking along the path surrounds the whole island to see all the landscapes after departing from the port.
Wangan Tiantaishan
The core area of Wangan Island geotourism is definitely Tiantaishan, which is located at northwest side of the island.
- The suggested route is to climb up Tiantaishan from the parking lot and then go down to the coast. Along the way, you can look out at the coastal landscape, including the nearby settlements, sea cliffs, wave-cut platforms, sea groove and complex joints on the wave-cut platforms. Besides, you can also observe the landscape of Xianjiyan formed by weathering and erosion.
- Then head off to the coast and closely observe the basalt, dykes, sea cliffs, platy joints on the sea cliffs, and the cliff collapse landscape along the wave-cut platform. The only danger is sea cliff rolling stones, so you must be very careful when visiting.
- After observing the Tiantaishan, you can head to Shueian settlement at the northern end of the island to observe the gorgeous traditional Sanhe Yuans (three-section residential compound) and settlements.
- Afterwards, visit the famous and typical settlement, Jhongshe, on the south side of Tiantaishan. Several movies were shooting here, and the traditional houses and shops are extremely worthy visiting.
- You can also visit Budai Harbour, Liyushan, Xian Reservoir, Xian settlements, and Dongan settlements to observe the oldest alkaline basalt outcrop in Penghu.
- Finally, visit the Conservation Center and the Green Turtle Nesting Refuge; the Green Turtle Nesting Refuge is located on the west and south of the island and is not suitable for large-scale tourism activities.
Cimeiyu
- First, go to the northwest bay area to observe the sea cliffs composed of columnar basalts with obvious horizontal platy joints, and the stoneware factories site. Next, head to the Twin-Hearts Stone Weir to see the most beautiful and exquisite stone weir in Penghu, as well as the pyroclastic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and rock formations invaded by the dykes.
- Then look out at Little Taiwan wave-cut platform and the bay topography on the south side sea cliff. Also, watch the small-scale bad land and mudstone pedestal rock landform.
- Afterwards, go to Nioumuping to look out at the bay and then go to the wave-cut platform to observe the interface between the basalt flow and pyroclastic rock, sea cliff, columnar basalt jointing cross-section, sea stack, pyroclastic rock and pot holes.
- Continue to the Great-Lion Stone to observe the twisted columnar joints and the peculiar headland. Look out at the dykes of Dragon Sea-eroded Platform, sea cliffs composed of pyroclastic rock, wave-cut platform, and unique alignment formed by eroded rocks on the wave-cut platform. Head down south to Xiaxiang and appreciate columnar basalt sea cliff and marine erosion ladder columnar basalt.
- Finally, go to Yueli Bay to observe the beach and the basalt with radiated columnar joints. Also, look out at or closely observe the nearby Waiting-for-Husband Rock, and then off to Cimeiyu Lighthouse. Visit the lighthouse and observe the representative calcareous clastic rocks of Cimeiyu. Head back to the port after visiting the Tomb of the Seven Beauties.
