Interactive Q & A for residents at local public meetings

Q&A

2019

Q1:We have applied for a geopark, what is the purpose of the public meeting? Is the Penghu County covered by the

                Geopark?

A1:Before a local geopark is designated, public meeting must be held to collect people's opinions. This is because

the designation of a geopark starts at the local level, starting with the Penghu County Geopark, then becoming

a national geopark, and then the central government will promote our Penghu Geopark to the world and turn it

into a global geopark. In line with the global trend, we have designated the whole of Penghu as a geopark.

Q2:The Penghu County is a geopark area, will there be any conflict if the Yandun Mountain is designated as a natural

        monument?

A2:No, a natural monument is not the same as a geopark. The geopark follows the world trend of drawing up a large

area with people, geology and ecology, which are all elements needed in a geopark. In this geopark,if you think

there is something that needs special protection, we will designate it as a natural monument, and special

topographical and geological phenomena will be assessed. The current plan is to designate the low crater on the

side of Wukantou(Yandun Mountain) as a natural monument. In the future, if you have friends coming, or if you are

a travel agency, you can take visitors to see it.

A :The value of the natural monument will be recognized by the local residents, and no excavation or damage will be

Q1:Can residents still go to the seashore to collect and dig for shells after the designation of a natural monument?

A1:Natural monuments are divided into three categories: plants, minerals, and special landscapes and geological

phenomena, which are prohibited by law from being picked, cut down, excavated or otherwise damaged, and

their ecological environment should be maintained. Anyone who violates the above provisions shall be punished

by imprisonment for a term of not less than six months and not more than five years and a fine of not less than

NT$500,000 and not more than NT$20 million, in accordance with Article 103 of the Cultural Heritage Preservation

Act. As a result, there is no impact on the activities of the local residences in the intertidal zone.

Q2:After the designation of the natural monument in Dashibi Saiwai village, it has become a scenic spot. The site

should be marked and warned to avoid damage from outside.

A2:In the future, after the notice has been designated, we will evaluate the planning and community patrol approach.
